Built in 1880, the yeast and malt stockroom on Helsinki’s Bulevardi was
refurbished and converted into the Rettig Group’s Head Office in 1990. The
original facade is protected under a preservation order, but the interior
of the building has been converted into modern office premises.
Our history
Tarkala started operating when
extensive renovation of the Sinebrychoff block was started in the late
1980s and early 1990s.In the first stage of this project, the old malt stockroom was refurbished and converted into Rettig Group’s Head Office. Subsequently a part of the former brewery area was demolished while another part was renovated to meet today’s requirements for office premises. This renovation artfully combined the old with the new. The block was converted into prime residential apartments, offices and business premises, complete with underground parking facilities. The final phase, Sonaatti, was completed in 2003.
One of the buildings converted into office facilities was the brewery’s former distillery, Kiinteistö Oy Wiinanpolttimo. Built in 1844, the distillery is the oldest existing industrial building in Helsinki.
